White House (Washington, D.C. USA)
Presidential Residence and Workplace
The cornerstone for this white sandstone house, designed by James Hoban, was laid on October 13, 1792. It was rebuilt after British troops burned it in 1814, and porticos and wings have been added through the years. John Adams was the first President to reside in the White House on November 1, 1800, and it has been the U.S. Presidential home and workplace ever since.
