Study Tips (Grammar)

    • When proofreading a paper, try reading in out loud. You will be able to catch errors that you might normally skim right over.
    • Remember that apostrophes are used for  possessive noun and contractions. As tempting as it seems, avoid using them to form plural words.
    • Remember that two negatives cancel each other out. If you say. "I don't want no more, you are really saying that you  want more. It would be proper to say, "I don't want anymore.
    • Avoid  using "Should of." Even though in might should like "should of" when speaking, the proper phrase to use in this situation is "should have." Example: I should have done it the other way. This also applies to "could have," "would have," "may have," "might have" and "must have."
    • Use "who" as the subject of a sentence, and "whom" as the object. One way to tell if you have it right is to answer the question. If you would answer if with "he," then use "who." If you would answer ir with "him," then use "whom."
    • A quick way to tell if you should use "I" or "me" when writing a sentence is to remove the other person and see if it sounds correct. If you would say "I went to the store," then you should say "Jason and I went to the store." If you would say  "Stacey went with me," then you should say "Stacey went with Jason and me."
    • You had better not forget to insert the "had "  or the contraction for it when using "you had better."
